Summary
The Examen National de Fin de 6e Année is administered annually by the Direction de l'Enseignement Basique, Ministère de l'Éducation, de la Culture et de la Science to grade 6 (ISCED 1) students in public schools.The Examen National de Fin de 6e Année is a high-stake and mandatory examination that certifies completion of primary education. It is a requirement for students wishing to pursue lower-secondary education (ISCED 2).
The Examen National de Fin de 6e Année is a written examination, administered face-to-face through paper-pencil tests. All test-takers are presented with the same cognitive booklets or tests, which are aligned with the national curriculum.
The Examen National de Fin de 6e Année serves the following purposes:
- student certification for completion of primary education
- student selection to higher education programmes or admission into specific courses or tracks
- supporting teachers (training, relevant materials, etc.)

Scope
The Examen National de Fin de 6e Année comprises two mandatory subjects administered in Portuguese. These subjects and the duration of each test are listed below:- Mathematics, 120 minutes
- Portugues language, 120 minutes
Description of test items: Test items consist of multiple choice questions with three or more response options, open-ended questions requiring short constructed responses and essay writing.
Description of stimuli: Test stimuli consist of continuous and mixed.
Reporting metrics: Student performance is reported by average score. The minimum requirement to meet the national standard is a score of 50%.The Mathematics test and the Portuguese language test have a total of 100 points each.The student is promoted to next grade under one of the following conditions:
- the student has more than 50 points for each subject
- the student has more than 50 points for one subject and at least 35 to 50 points for the second subject
