Summary
The Pre and Post Term Assessment of Students' Improvement of Life Skills Knowledge and Competency was administered over the 2012-2014 period by the Ministry of Education, Department of Educational Planning and Training to grade 6, grade 7, and grade 8 (ISCED 2) students in general education programmes in public schools. Data collection operations took place over different time periods depending on the region. In Lower Myanmar, data collection started at the end of June 2012, and ended in early February 2013. In Upper Myanmar, data collection started at the end of June 2013, and ended in early February 2014. The next administration is planned to start in 2015.
Data collection consists of two phases: the “Pre-test”, administered at the beginning of the academic year; and the “Post-test”, administered at the end of the academic year.
The Pre and Post Term Assessment of Students' Improvement of Life Skills Knowledge and Competency is a low-stake assessment. It is a written assessment, administered face-to-face and delivered through paper-pencil tests. All test-takers are presented with the same cognitive booklets or tests, which are aligned with the national curriculum.
The purpose of the assessment is to provide support to teachers, in terms of training, relevant materials, etc.
Random sample
Results are reported at the school, sub-national and national levels. Data are disaggregated by sex, geographic location (urban and rural) and major cities.
Results are published in reports, which are available in print.
Scope
The assessment comprises seven tests administered in the Myanmar language, each with a one hour administration duration. The tests, which are the same for all the grades assessed, are listed below:- Social skills
- Environment and sanitation
- Disease prevention
- Reproductive health
- HIV/ AIDS and STI
- Emotional intelligence
Description of test items: Test items consist of multiple choice questions with two, three or more response options and open-ended questions requiring short constructed responses.
Description of stimuli: Test stimuli consist of continuous texts.
Reporting metrics: There is no information available on the reporting metric of student performance.
