Summary
The Évaluation des Acquis Scolaires des Élèves de CM2 was administered in 2012 by the Direction de la Planification de l'Éducation, Ministère de l'Éducation Nationale to grade 5 (ISCED 1) students in public, private and community schools. Community schools are schools created at the initiative of parents, individuals, associations or Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). Community schools benefit the same advantages as the public schools (parental contributions reduction, allocation of civil servant teachers).The Évaluation des acquis scolaires des élèves de CM2 uses the PASEC tools adapted for Madagascar (questionnaires and standardized tests administered at the end of the school year, procedures, instructions, data analysis procedures). The Évaluation des acquis scolaires des élèves de CM2 is a low-stake assessment. It is a written assessment, administered face-to-face and delivered through paper-pencil tests. All test-takers are presented with the same cognitive booklets or tests.
The Évaluation des acquis scolaires des élèves de CM2 serves the following purposes:
- sub-national level monitoring of learning outcomes
- monitoring education quality levels
- measuring the performance level of students
Random sample
Results are reported at the school, sub-national and national levels. Data are disaggregated by sex, geographic location (urban and rural) and type of schools (public, private and community).
Results will be published in print report. The assessment report has not been completed yet and is not yet available.
Scope
The Évaluation des acquis scolaires des élèves de CM2 comprises three subjects administered in French, except for the Malagasy language test. These subjects and the duration of each test are listed below:- French language, 90 minutes
- Malagasy language, 90 minutes
- Mathematics, 90 minutes
Description of test items: Test items consist of multiple choice questions with three or more response options, open-ended questions requiring short constructed responses and essay writing.
Description of stimuli: Test stimuli consist of continuous, non-continuous and mixed texts.
Reporting metrics: Student performance is reported by average score and by the percentage of questions or items answered correctly. The minimum requirement to meet the national standard is a score of 50%.
