Sampling
Sampling Procedure
The sample frame consists of the list of French-speaking public schools, extracted from the statistical database of 2011-2012. Schools are divided in 15 strata defined by location (8 regions and 2 areas - rural-urban-; only urban in Conakry).
A random sample of schools is selected in each stratum: the probability of selection for each sampled school was defined based on the target number of teachers in the school and the number of schools in the stratum.
The sample was drawn to be nationally representative, and includes 420 schools, rural and urban, in the eight regions of Guinea.
Within the sampled schools, all grade 3 (ISCED 1) and grade 4 (ISCED 1) teachers are selected. All students in grade 2, 3, 4, took the assessment in May 2012 and May 2013. In May 2014, only a random sample of grade 3 and 4 students was assessed.
