In 2011, the sampling frame for grade 6 students used statistics from 2010. The sample considered school location (urban, semi-urban, semi-remote and remote) and gender. The final sample consisted of 92 schools selected across the country, for a total of 4157 students.

The sample was drawn using simple random sampling at each stage: administrative unit at first stage, schools at second stage, classrooms at third stage, and students at fourth stage.
